“Almana Hospital in Dammam” saved the life of a child suffering from septicemia due to a complex brain abscess

In a delicate medical case requiring an urgent and highly professional intervention, a specialized medical team at “Almana Hospital in Dammam” successfully saved the life of a 13-year-old boy suffering from  severe headache,  persistent seizures, and  difficulty speaking.

Once the child arrived at the hospital, the expert medical team promptly diagnosed the case following thorough examinations, such as a CT scan and a contrast-enhanced MRI. These tests identified an abscess beneath the brain's protective membrane, which exerted pressure on the right side of the brain, causing localized encephalitis and cerebral edema and septicemia

Given the critical nature of the case, the rapid deterioration of the child's condition, the increased blood toxicity, and the progression of hemiplegia, Dr. Amani El-Faki, a Neurosurgeon at “Almana Hospital in Dammam”, decided to perform an urgent surgical intervention to open the skull and remove the abscess.

The surgery was successfully performed without damaging healthy brain tissue. Following this, the ENT team conducted sinus cleaning, which revealed Aspergillus fungus. The child received appropriate treatment based on the diagnosis.

Thankfully, the medical team at “Almana Hospital in Dammam” succeeded greatly. The child's condition improved significantly after the operation. He fully regained consciousness and began walking independently. He was discharged from the hospital in stable condition and continues to receive treatment and follow-up at the outpatient clinic.

Through this case, “Almana Group of Hospitals” confirms its pioneering role in providing comprehensive and specialized healthcare, supported by the latest medical technologies and the most skilled medical staff. It embodies its ongoing commitment to providing the highest standards of care to its patients.
