
Saudi Ports See 13.43% Growth in Container Volume in April 2025
Ports overseen by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) recorded a 13.43% increase in handled containers in April 2025, reaching 625,430 TEUs compared to 551,373 TEUs during the same month in 2024. Transshipment containers also rose by 7.46%, reaching 132,245, up from 123,060 containers last year.
Imported containers increased by 22.48%, reaching 259,425 TEUs, up from 211,809 TEUs, while exported containers saw a rise of 7.97%, totaling 233,760 TEUs, compared to 216,504 TEUs during the same period last year.
Total handled tonnage, encompassing general cargo, solid bulk cargo, and liquid bulk cargo, decreased by 2.36%, reaching 20,532,098 tons, compared to 21,029,161 tons during the same period last year.
General cargo totaled 974,944 tons, solid bulk cargo amounted to 4,484,779 tons, and liquid bulk cargo reached 15,072,375 tons. Additionally, the ports received 682,022 livestock, marking a 5.36% increase from 647,345 livestock in the same period last year.
Maritime traffic increased by 16.28%, reaching 1,057 ships compared to 909 ships in 2024. The number of passengers surged by 94.72%, totaling 107,638, up from 55,277 last year. The number of vehicles rose by 36.56%, reaching 95,300 compared to 69,786 vehicles in the previous year.
