Folk Arts Showcase Al-Baha’s Diverse and Rich Contemporary Cultural Heritage

Folk arts in the southern regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia vary from one area to another, as cultural and geographical diversity has contributed to the emergence of distinct styles and expressions unique to each region.

In Al-Baha Region, people showcase their artistic identity by blending culture and heritage in ways that appeal to the preferences of visitors and residents. This reflects a desire to remain connected with an authentic civilization that has existed throughout the ages and passed down across generations.

Al-Baha branch Director of the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts (SASCA) Ali Al-Baydani explained that the region has 12 folklore groups with more than 350 members and participants from various governorates. He noted that the branch organizes special festivals for these groups, making them a prominent presence at national, social, and tourism events in the region.

He emphasized that these efforts, part of SASCA's documentation and revival of all lost art forms, align with Saudi Vision 2030, which supports culture and the arts across all fields, recognizing them as a key component of national development. The initiative also aims to transform local heritage from archival material into a vibrant, contemporary cultural product that reflects the diversity and richness of the people of Al-Baha.
