Red Sea Global Launches Volunteer Mangrove Planting Initiatives on International Mangrove Day
Red Sea Global has launched a community-based volunteer initiative in celebration of International Mangrove Day, as part of its ongoing efforts to protect coastal ecosystems and empower the communities living along the Red Sea to take part in the journey of sustainability.
The event was held at the Mangrove Park near the Shura Island Bridge, within the Red Sea destination, with the participation of more than 100 volunteers from the local community and hospitality sector employees.
Representatives from the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, the strategic partner of Red Sea Global in rehabilitating natural habitats and enhancing coastal vegetation, were also present.
On this occasion, Group Chief Environment and Sustainability Officer at Red Sea Global Raed Albasseet stated: “This initiative is a living embodiment of the regenerative tourism approach we believe in—one that is not limited to environmental protection, but extends to empowering the surrounding communities. Mangrove trees are among the most effective ecosystems for carbon absorption, and their protection is a core part of our environmental strategy.”
The event also marked the official launch of Red Sea Global’s Volunteer Program, a strategic initiative aimed at empowering Red Sea communities, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, and enabling specialized volunteerism. The program seeks to enhance community engagement in regenerative projects, build local capacities, and strengthen partnerships with the nonprofit sector, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and Red Sea Global’s guiding principle: “From People to Planet.”
The initiative was activated via “Jewar”, Red Sea Global’s interactive platform designed to strengthen communication channels with surrounding communities.
