IFBA Showcases Falcon Covering over 600 Kilometers in 8 Hours
The International Falcon Breeders Auction (IFBA) 2025, held at the headquarters of the Saudi Falcons Club in Malham, north of Riyadh, is highlighting the advanced development of locally bred falcons—most notably “Salman,” a falcon that delivered an exceptional performance, reflecting the efficiency of Saudi breeding farms and the quality of their output.
Saudi falconer Badr Al-Aradi explained that his peregrine “Salman” is one of the finest falcons produced by a Saudi farm, with an entirely local lineage resulting from the mating of two pure peregrines. The bird weighs 1,090 grams, measures 17 cm in length and 16.5 cm in width, reflecting its balanced build and exceptional capabilities.
Al-Aradi noted that his falcons typically avoid leaving the farm’s provided shelters, which prompted him to develop a tracking device to monitor their movements.
“I was surprised to find that ‘Salman’ travels long distances daily. On one occasion, he flew 606 kilometers in just eight hours, starting from Turabah, passing through Qassim, then returning to Hail—soaring at altitudes exceeding 3,600 meters,” he said.
He emphasized that this achievement came at an age of less than three months, demonstrating remarkable endurance and sustained flight despite high temperatures—an uncommon feat for a young peregrine.
The auction underscores the Kingdom’s leadership in falcon breeding and production, reinforcing its presence in the global falconry arena.
