Over 35,000 Carpets Maintained Across Grand Mosque for Worshippers' Comfort

Beneath the steady flow of worshippers at the Grand Mosque, tens of thousands of carpets play a central role in ensuring comfort for visitors arriving from around the world.
More than 35,000 carpets cover the corridors and prayer areas of the Grand Mosque, including the Third Saudi Expansion, across around 150 locations. Their numbers can increase during Friday prayers and peak seasons to provide ample and comfortable space for worshippers and pilgrims.
The carpets are part of a continuous maintenance and sanitation program that uses modern technology and environmentally friendly materials to maintain high standards of hygiene and public health. The care extends beyond cleaning, as carpets are also replaced periodically to preserve their quality and ensure maximum comfort for worshippers over time.
Each carpet undergoes detailed inspections before being returned to its designated place inside the mosque to ensure it is free from defects or damage that could affect its condition. The checks include reviewing colors, fabric texture, and edges to keep the carpets in optimal condition in line with the sanctity of the site and the needs of worshippers.
Worshippers' awareness in using the carpets for their intended purposes also plays an important role in preserving their quality for as long as possible and enhancing comfort during prayers.
The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques also continues to develop various services related to both the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. The authority aims to offer visitors an integrated experience characterized by comfort and safety while focusing on quality and sustainability in all its work.
