King Saud University Wins US Patent for Firefighting Robot
The Center of Smart Robotics Research at the College of Computer and Information Sciences, King Saud University, has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a robotic system designed to fight fires and safeguard lives and property.
The system can detect fires in their early stages through smart sensors that transmit data to a mobile robot equipped with a fire extinguisher, enabling rapid and effective flame suppression. It can also integrate with conventional fire alarm systems via a smart accessory and operates with full autonomy, reducing risks to firefighters.
Its applications span industrial facilities, commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, and laboratories, providing an advanced safety solution for hard-to-reach locations.
This achievement reflects King Saud University’s commitment to developing technologies that serve society and support Saudi Vision 2030 goals of fostering local innovation. It further underscores the growing global competitiveness of Saudi universities as centers of knowledge and technology production.
