Heritage Commission Excavations at Hillit Site Reveal First Century AH Settlement

The Heritage Commission has announced the results of archaeological excavation work at the Hillit site in Al-Dawadmi Governorate, Riyadh Region, during its fourth season, as part of its ongoing efforts to excavate and preserve national antiquities.

Located approximately 110 kilometers northwest of Al-Dawadmi, the Hillit site is an ancient mining settlement registered in the National Antiquities Register.

The fourth season yielded 18 architectural units, alongside a significant number of artifacts, most notably a stone weight engraved in Jazm script with its measure as "Ratl" (pound), dating to the first or second century AH. Other discoveries include ornaments, pottery vessels, glassware, and stone tools.

Preliminary results indicate that settlement at the site dates to the first century AH, consistent with findings from previous seasons.
