GAC Promotes National Experience, Strengthens Ties in Seoul

The General Authority for Competition (GAC) concluded its international participation in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from September 3 to 5, taking part in the Seoul International Competition Forum as well as specialized workshops and bilateral meetings held over the subsequent two days.

 The GAC delegation to the forum was led by GAC CEO Dr. Fahad Alshathri, who participated in a main panel discussion titled "Specific Issues in the Digital Sector: E-Commerce and OTT Services."

 Alshathri presented the Kingdom's national experience in regulating competition within digital markets, highlighting key initiatives by the GAC, including regulation of the food delivery app sector and a study on cross-border e-commerce and its impact on local retailers.

 Alshathri also held a bilateral meeting with the Korea Fair Trade Commission, where they discussed prospects for joint cooperation, the exchange of regulatory expertise, and avenues for coordination on issues of mutual interest.

 In addition, the GAC delegation engaged with international organizations such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Regional Centre for Competition (Policy Support Centre), taking part in a specialized workshop on digital markets.

 GAC's participation in the Seoul International Competition Forum underscores the Kingdom's advanced position in developing competitive policies, reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its international presence, and highlights its contribution to shaping the future of digital market regulation in a way that supports consumer interests and fosters a healthy business environment.
