IMF Commends Saudi Arabia’s Economic Resilience and Reaffirms the Momentum of Reforms in the 2026 Article IV Consultation

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has concluded its 2026 Article IV Consultation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, highlighting the country's strong economic fundamentals, resilience amid global and regional challenges, and the continued progress of Vision 2030 reforms. The IMF praised Saudi Arabia's sound macroeconomic management, fiscal and financial stability, and ongoing structural reforms, while emphasizing the importance of sustaining reform momentum to support long-term growth, economic diversification, and investment.

The following highlights summarize the IMF staff's concluding statement from the 2026 Article IV Consultation with Saudi Arabia:


1- The IMF 2026 Article IV Consultation Report affirmed the resilience of the Saudi economy in the face of the war in the Middle East, supported by strong economic fundamentals, diversified energy and logistics infrastructure, and the authorities’ efforts to mitigate the impact of disruptions.

- The report noted that the Saudi economy demonstrated agility and resilience despite continued uncertainty.

- It commended the role of the Kingdom’s diversified logistics and energy infrastructure in mitigating the impact of disruptions to trade and shipping.

- It highlighted that Saudi Arabia’s low government debt, ample foreign exchange reserves, and sizeable sovereign assets have strengthened the Kingdom’s ability to withstand external shocks.

- It underscored the authorities’ efforts to monitor economic developments, coordinate policy responses, facilitate trade rerouting, and strengthen contingency planning.

 

2- The IMF 2026 Article IV Consultation Report recognized the positive impact of Saudi Vision 2030 reforms in strengthening economic resilience, enhancing institutions and policymaking, and supporting economic diversification.
