Islamic Development Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Educational Reforms in Uzbekistan

Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) President Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser visited the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training of Directors and Specialists of Preschool in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, yesterday as part of a multi-million-dollar investment initiative aimed at strengthening Uzbekistan’s education sector.
The visit showcased innovations in kindergarten teacher development through a collaboration between IsDB, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.
The visit highlighted IsDB’s support for the “Enhancing Access to Quality Early Childhood Education Project,” which includes a $2.3 million investment that established 11 regional training centers, launched the first AI-powered multimedia studio in Tashkent, and supported the development of new teacher training programs.
Al Jasser stated, "Witnessing this project firsthand is inspiring. We are seeing modern tools unleash the potential of teachers and an innovative curriculum revolutionize the learning experience for a generation of children. By investing in its youth, Uzbekistan is paving the way for lasting prosperity." He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to educational reforms in Uzbekistan and beyond.
Additionally, IsDB and UNICEF are collaborating on the $220 million SmartED Project, the largest single investment in Uzbekistan’s education sector. This initiative includes two agreements worth $19.2 million to support inclusive education models, curriculum updates, and quality assurance.
UNICEF Representative to Uzbekistan Regina Castillo noted that IsDB’s investment in Uzbekistan’s education sector aligns with the government’s goals for enhancing human capital.
