Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission Participates in the Educational, Cultural, and Societal Approaches in Literature, Communication, and Translation International Conference in India

The Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission participated in
an international conference organized by JECRC University in Jaipur,
India. The conference was titled "Educational, Cultural, and Societal
Approaches in Literature, Communication, and Translation."
General
Manager of the Translation Sector at the Literature, Publishing, and
Translation Commission Dr. Hailah Al-Khalaf presented a research paper
titled "Global Society Using Translation: The 'Tarjim' Initiative's
Contribution to Language Services Management." During her presentation,
Dr. Al-Khalaf discussed the quantitative and qualitative achievements of
the "Tarjim" initiative since its launch by the Commission in 2021.

She highlighted that the initiative has achieved results surpassing
those accomplished over many years in translating from and into Arabic,
according to numerous local and international studies. Dr. Al-Khalaf
emphasized the importance of these achievements in elevating the
presence of translated Arabic literature internationally, stating,
"These figures reflect the Kingdom's commitment to promoting cultural
and knowledge exchange with the world and confirm the pioneering role
that the 'Tarjim' initiative plays in this field."
Dr. Al-Khalaf
also delivered an opening speech at the conference, stressing the
significance of such international gatherings in enhancing opportunities
for global experience exchange. She underscored the potential for
development and building upon achievements in translation, literature,
and publishing. In her address, she highlighted the crucial role of
translation in fostering cultural exchange and enhancing communication
and understanding between nations.
The "Tarjim" initiative is one of
the key programs launched by the Literature, Publishing, and
Translation Commission to support high-quality translations from and
into Arabic through its two main grant tracks: book translation grants
and academic journal, cultural magazine, and article grants.
In just
four years since its inception, the initiative has facilitated the
translation of over 858 books, doubling the output of previous decades
in the Kingdom in less than a tenth of the time. The initiative has also
supported the translation of 249 Saudi books into other languages,
enhancing the global presence of Saudi literature. Furthermore, "Tarjim"
has enriched Arabic content by providing more than 80 grants for
academic journals and over 930 grants for cultural articles.
