SDAIA Highlights Dimensions, Developments, Global Landscape of Agentic AI

The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has unveiled key dimensions, technological developments, and the global landscape of Agentic Artificial Intelligence (Agentic AI), emphasizing its future significance both locally and internationally.
This was presented in a recently published report offering a comprehensive overview of Agentic AI through various focal points. These include the global outlook of the technology, its local context and applications in the Kingdom, and its integration across sectors through a clear roadmap to accelerate implementation.
According to the SDAIA report, Agentic AI systems are characterized by six core capabilities: perception, reasoning, learning, action-taking, communication, and autonomous operation, often referred to as self-governance. These attributes enhance the potential for use in advanced applications such as autonomous vehicles, digital assistants, and smart customer service platforms.
The report traces the historical evolution of the concept, beginning with rule-based systems in the 1950s and culminating in the emergence of generative agents in 2020. These agents, powered by large language models (LLMs) like GPT and Claude, are now capable of performing multi-step tasks, interacting with external tools, and making complex decisions with high efficiency.
It further highlights a major turning point in 2024, marked by growing global interest in designing systems composed of specialized agents capable of collaborating to achieve specific operational goals, including automation, data analysis, and intelligent user interaction.
The report concludes that Agentic AI stands as a cornerstone of the next phase of digital transformation. It is expected to play a vital role in enhancing efficiency and productivity, improving user experience, and maximizing the impact of AI technologies across all sectors, in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030 goal of building a globally leading digital knowledge economy.
