Moringa Peregrina: Timeless Botanical Icon of AlUla’s Heritage

The Moringa peregrina tree stands as one of the timeless botanical icons of AlUla Governorate. Revered since ancient times, it symbolizes the elegance and vitality of nature, holding a cherished place in the region’s rich literary heritage. Today, it continues to thrive as a vibrant tree that blends environmental beauty with deep cultural significance.
 AlUla Governorate is among the Kingdom’s foremost regions for cultivating this tree, spanning an estimated 67.20 hectares and producing roughly 134.40 tons annually. With over 53,761 trees planted, the harvest season takes place between mid-July and mid-August each year.
 Renowned for its remarkable drought tolerance and adaptability to desert climates, the Moringa tree is also celebrated in numerous poems.
 The Royal Commission for AlUla places special emphasis on local plants with economic and environmental value, particularly Moringa peregrina. As part of its agricultural sustainability initiatives, the commission focuses on developing value chains for native plants and promoting their applications in cosmetics, medicine, and food industries. This approach supports the responsible and renewable use of natural resources.
