Entertainment Chief: Saudi Arabia Now Boxing Powerhouse, Canelo vs. Crawford Fight of the Decade

Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and President of the Saudi Boxing Federation Turki bin Abdulmohsen Alalshikh affirmed that Saudi Arabia has become a pivotal force in global boxing, highlighting the upcoming Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford bout as a defining moment in modern combat sports and one of the most important fights of the past decade.

Alalshikh made the statement during a press conference held last night in Boulevard City, signaling the launch of the global media tour for the "Fight of the Century" for the Super Middleweight title, which will take place on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, US, as part of Riyadh Season.

He expressed gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his unwavering support of boxing and national sports initiatives. He also praised the strategic partnerships that have strengthened Saudi Arabia's global presence, stressing that this event reflects the Kingdom's vision to solidify its role as a host of major international sporting competitions.

Commenting on the fight's atmosphere, Alalshikh said, "The challenge began just after midnight the night before the press conference. As I have said before, I am in pursuit of real fights; this is the essence of boxing."

He explained that holding the bout in Las Vegas continues the city's legacy as a global boxing hub, while noting that the Kingdom is fully funding and owning the event, taking the lead in this historic moment. He described it as one of the greatest fights in modern boxing history.

Alalshikh also highlighted the decision to stream the event on Netflix, citing the platform's unmatched global reach. He stated that the collaboration is expected to break viewership records, especially given the rapid advancements in digital media.

He concluded by recalling his meeting in Riyadh with Mexican boxer Canelo and undefeated American champion Crawford, during which they discussed future cooperation. He noted that long-term plans are in place with both fighters, extending beyond boxing to include broader projects.

Canelo expressed pride in participating in the fight, saying, "Every match is more than a flurry of punches. It's about pride, family, and faith. It's about discipline, commitment, and love for boxing. On September 13, I will embody that pride in every way."

Crawford, in turn, affirmed the magnitude of the match, calling it one of the biggest fights of the past 20 years. "I aspire to become an undisputed champion in three weight classes, and on September 13, I will emerge victorious," he said.

The press conference marked the first stop on the global promotional tour for the fight, which will next proceed to New York during Fanatics Fest before concluding in Las Vegas ahead of one of the most anticipated bouts in modern boxing history.
