Saudi Reef Plants over 15 Million Seedlings to Bolster Afforestation Goals
The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Saudi Reef) has affirmed its continued efforts to support and enhance afforestation activities across the Kingdom. This is achieved by empowering small farmers and providing them with training in modern agricultural practices. These actions directly contribute to environmental and agricultural sustainability in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals. The program's strategy involves providing seedlings and environmentally compatible varieties to these farmers and disseminating modern agricultural practices to help them increase agricultural efficiency and productivity, thereby contributing to the development of vegetation cover as mandated by the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
The Saudi Reef announced that it has successfully planted more than 15.5 million seedlings across all regions of the Kingdom from its launch until 2024. These extensive plantings cover the fruit, coffee, and rose sectors, with the announcement coinciding with the launch of the 2025 National Afforestation Season, an event organized by the National Afforestation Program to support the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative. The Saudi Reef specified the sector-by-sector contributions: the fruit sector accounted for the largest share with 12.6 million seedlings, the coffee sector saw 1.8 million seedlings planted, and the rose sector contributed 1.1 million seedlings.
Najran Region led all regions with nearly 6 million seedlings planted, followed by Aseer Region with 4.5 million seedlings. Trailing those were Jazan Region, which planted 1.6 million seedlings, Al-Baha with 1.4 million seedlings, and Makkah Region with 1.1 million seedlings. An additional 971,000 seedlings were planted throughout other regions of the Kingdom.
