IMCTC Secretary General Meets Acting UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism
Secretary General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Major General Pilot Mohammed Al-Moghedi met on Thursday with Acting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Alexandre Zouev and his delegation at the coalition’s headquarters in Riyadh.
Discussions highlighted the IMCTC’s strategic vision for combating terrorism across four pillars: ideological, media, financial, and military, alongside programs and initiatives aimed at building member states’ capacities and enhancing their readiness against cross-border threats.
The coalition also underscored its role in supporting pertinent regional and international efforts through specialized training, experience sharing, and development of joint operational tools as well as guides on countering terrorism and its financing.
Zouev praised the IMCTC’s counter-terrorism efforts, serving as a practical global platform that brings many countries together under a framework of coordinated collective action. He said the United Nations views with interest partnership models focused on capacity-building, addressing root causes of extremism, and promoting moderation and coexistence.
The UN official also emphasized the importance of unifying international and regional efforts to tackle increasingly complex threats of terrorism that intertwine organized crime and cyber challenges.
In February 2025, the IMCTC signed a memorandum of understanding with the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre to enhance joint work and coordinate efforts in the face of terrorist threats.
The memorandum includes specialized training, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives aimed at strengthening member states’ capabilities while supporting the principles of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, thereby enhancing regional and global security and stability.
