SDAIA President, China Ambassador Visit UNESCO's Riyadh-Based AI Ethics Center

Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) President Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi and Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua visited the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), a UNESCO-affiliated institution based in Riyadh.

Alghamdi monitored the progress of the center's work and its global efforts to advance artificial-intelligence (AI) ethics and support women's empowerment.

During the visit, ICAIRE acting Managing Director Abdulrahman Habib presented an overview of the center's key efforts, including the Elevate Initiative, which aims to empower 25,000 women globally in the field of AI. The initiative seeks to enhance women's knowledge of advanced AI technologies and prepare them for the job market, serving as an inspiring model for women's empowerment and promoting technology inclusiveness.

Habib highlighted ICAIRE's international efforts to promote the responsible use of AI technologies and its mission to support countries in building ethical AI frameworks for the betterment of humanity. The center’s work is guided by four pillars: supporting research and development, raising awareness about AI ethics, building and enhancing capabilities, and developing relevant policies and recommendations.

He noted ICAIRE's role in organizing the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) and launching the center's first global research initiative aimed at uniting researchers and producing impactful studies published in leading scientific platforms.

Habib also highlighted ICAIRE's various events in collaboration with Arab and regional organizations, its support for Saudi Arabia in applying UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology, and its ongoing engagements with the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.
