Visiting Madinah: Guide to Worship, Reverence at Prophet's Mosque

Muslims across the globe deeply yearn to visit the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah for its profound virtue and spiritual rewards, with Advisor to the Royal Court and Member of the Council of Senior Scholars Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutlaq providing invaluable guidance on essential acts of worship and proper etiquette for visitors.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Sheikh Al-Mutlaq underscored the significance of a sincere intention, seeking only the pleasure of Allah. He reminded visitors that Madinah is the second holiest city in Islam, following Makkah, and that the Prophet's Mosque is the second most virtuous mosque, after the Grand Mosque of Makkah. He highlighted the extraordinary reward of praying in the Prophet's Mosque, which is equivalent to a thousand prayers.
Sheikh Al-Mutlaq advised visitors to prioritize several key practices. Before arriving, he recommended that individuals purify themselves from sins through repentance and seeking forgiveness, enhancing the spiritual connection. Upon arrival, visitors should maximize the opportunity for prayer, embracing the multiplied rewards within the Prophet's Mosque. He encouraged them to approach the visit with reverence, allowing for a profound sense of peace and piety.
Maintaining proper etiquette is crucial. Visitors should respect the sanctity of the mosque by adhering to public manners, avoiding distractions such as excessive phone use and photography, and refraining from disturbing others during worship. Cooperation with mosque staff to maintain order and tranquility is essential. Visitors should adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet by entering the mosque with dignity, stepping in with the right foot first, and performing two rak'ahs of prayer.
Visitors, as per the Sunnah, should pray in Al-Rawda Al-Sharifa, recognizing its great virtue, but should do so without causing harm or discomfort to others. They should increase supplication and remembrance, as the Prophet's Mosque, particularly Al-Rawda Al-Sharifa, is a place where prayers are answered. They should offer greetings to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions. If possible, they should consider spending time in solitude within the mosque for focused worship. They should follow the Prophet's example by visiting and praying at Quba Mosque. Men are encouraged to visit the graves of the companions in Al-Baqi and the Martyrs of Uhud Cemetery, offering greetings and prayers.
Sheikh Al-Mutlaq emphasized that adhering to these recommendations will enable visitors to fully experience the spiritual blessings of Madinah and the Prophet's Mosque, fostering a deeper connection with their faith.
