Saudi Vice Minister of Finance Participates in IMF Panel Discussion in Riyadh

‏H.E. Saudi Vice Minister of Finance, Mr. Abdulmuhsen bin Saad Alkhalaf , on Sunday, May 25, 2025, participated in an IMF Panel Discussion entitled "Regional economic development and outlook," which was held in Riyadh.

In his remarks, Vice Minister Alkhalaf noted that the uncertainty conditions underscore the importance of regional countries to take structural reforms to improve economic resilience and support economic recovery, explaining that the Kingdom has adopted many structural reforms and developed a strong fiscal framework that helps in facing the external shocks without compromising development plans or the fiscal sustainability.

Vice Minister Alkhalaf noted that Saudi Arabia is pursuing a long-term strategy to transform the economy. These reforms have enhanced the resilience of the Saudi economy and provided a wide set of policy options to deal with potential shock.

He added that the tightening of global financial conditions, rising economic fragmentation, and continued commodity price volatility have resulted in fiscal policy taking center stage in shaping the global and regional economic response.

Vice Minister Alkhalaf noted that these conditions require governments to have a combination of fiscal prudence, agile response, structural reforms, investments in strategic sectors, and support for the private sector.

The event brought together senior policymakers from the MENA region to discuss economic policymaking and management to ensure sustained economic growth and stability in resource-rich countries.
