Wissam Yassine: A Transformative Network of Leaders for MENA’s Sustainability Goals
Bain & Company’s MENA Sustainability Shapers Program, spearheaded by Wissam Yassine, Partner at Bain & Company Middle East, is dedicated to building a network of sustainability-focused leaders across the Middle East and North Africa.
Yassine emphasized the program’s goals, its alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, and the role of sustainability in reshaping industries across the region.
“The MENA Sustainability Shapers Program is an executive leadership platform designed to cultivate a community of sustainability leaders from across the MENA region,” Yassine told Riyadh Daily.
“We aim to integrate sustainability principles into the leadership journey, empowering executives with the tools to fully realize their potential and drive transformative change. By examining recent sustainability trends and aligning strategies with organizational goals, the program not only emphasizes leadership growth but fosters a collaborative environment. Here, sustainability becomes more than a concept—it’s a tangible practice and a regional imperative.” Yassine added.
For 12 months, participants will delve into global and local sustainability trends, best practices, and hands-on learning.
Yassine highlighted that the program’s comprehensive approach is designed to equip leaders with the interdisciplinary insights and practical tools required for integrating sustainability from policy to practice within their institutions.
“Our participants are embarking on a journey with modules covering best practices, interactive learning sessions, and guidance from global sustainability experts. The program prepares them to navigate economic shifts and drive resilient, long-term sustainability strategies,” he noted.
The inaugural cohort features more than 30 sustainability leaders from sectors such as aviation, manufacturing, construction, and utilities, representing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to its Vision 2030 sustainability goals.
“Through in-person modules and interactive activities, we’re creating a common ground for participants to articulate shared sustainability goals and translate them into actionable strategies. This cohort represents a key part of our mission, aligning closely with Vision 2030 by building a team of leaders dedicated to sustainable development. Collaborative exercises and virtual seminars with global experts help form a tight-knit network, fostering lasting connections that transcend industries.” he explained.
Plans for the program extend beyond Saudi Arabia, with the aim to include leaders from across the MENA region, such as the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain.
“Following the Saudi cohort, we’re excited to expand future cohorts to include leaders from across MENA, creating a broader network committed to shaping a sustainable future,” he said.
Recognizing that organizations often face cultural, operational, and financial barriers when adopting sustainable practices, Yassine noted the importance of a supportive community: “The program addresses these challenges by providing participants with insights into overcoming obstacles, using case studies and role-playing scenarios. We are equipping leaders with access to global best practices, making it easier for them to champion sustainable changes within their organizations.”
On the role of technology, Yassine underscored the program’s commitment to leveraging digital tools to amplify its impact. “Technology is an integral part of our approach. Our learning platform provides on-demand resources, while virtual seminars with global experts bring valuable perspectives. Through these digital tools, we aim to harness technology’s potential to amplify sustainability initiatives, inspiring transformative change across MENA.”
While primarily focused on executive leadership, the program also plans to engage the younger generation in sustainability initiatives.
“We are considering future initiatives to involve young talent through mentorship, interactive platforms, and programs tailored to their development. Empowering emerging leaders is essential for the long-term impact of sustainability efforts in MENA.” Yassine said.
Yassine concluded, “Our goal is to create a transformative network of sustainability leaders across the region, empowering them to drive real impact in their organizations and industries. By equipping them with the latest insights and tools, we aim to foster a collaborative environment where sustainable development is not just a concept but a lived practice.”
