Altamimi Participates in 'Space for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals' in New York

The CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Altamimi, participated in the event "Space for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals" yesterday.

 The event, hosted at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, aimed to enhance international cooperation in space and explore its pivotal role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 In his speech during the event, Dr. Altamimi highlighted the Kingdom's growing role in the space sector, emphasizing the importance of leveraging space technologies to address pressing global issues such as climate change and mitigating the risks of natural disasters. He noted that through the Saudi Space Agency, the Kingdom is developing programs and initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and utilizing space technologies to support global efforts in Earth observation and climate action.

 He added that the role of space is not limited to exploring planets and galaxies but extends to supporting international policies aimed at achieving sustainable development. He also pointed out that the Saudi Space Agency, in collaboration with its international partners, is working to enhance joint efforts in space and exchange expertise among nations, driving innovation in space and related technologies.

 The event "Space for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals" was attended by prominent figures, including NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery of Germany Dr. Jorg Kukies, Minister of Information and Communication Technology of Colombia Mauricio Lizcano, Minister of Trade and Industry of South Africa Ebrahim Patel, and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Enrique Manalo.

 The event aimed to showcase the latest technologies and methods for visualizing satellite data in the context of space exploration and Earth observation to support climate action and reduce disaster risks, in line with the SDGs.
