Throughout its long and storied history, Jazan Region has meticulously preserved a vibrant folk heritage that continues to bridge past and present. This enduring legacy offers insight into the customs and behaviors of ancient societies, enriching the cultural understanding of successive generations while providing knowledge, inspiration, and entertainment.

Jazan’s folk traditions have played a vital role in imparting educational values and reinforcing social cohesion. Through tales, songs, proverbs, and customs, these traditions are marked by dramatic tension, symbolic richness, deep meaning, and positive role models that help individuals navigate life’s challenges.

Dr. Khalid Al-Shafie, a faculty member at Jazan University, noted that the region’s diverse environmental and geographical landscape has contributed significantly to the depth and variety of its folk heritage. This diversity, he explained, has inspired countless writers and creatives to draw on it in novels, stories, and literary works.

He emphasized the importance of oral traditions, such as folk tales and poetry, which have been passed down across generations. Folk songs, often rooted in rhyme and animal narratives, once played an integral role in children's upbringing. Jazan’s folklore also includes a wide array of riddles and puzzles, many used to sharpen children’s intellect and critical thinking skills.

Dr. Al-Shafie stressed the importance of preserving Jazan’s folk traditions as a key part of the Kingdom’s intangible cultural heritage. He called on writers and artists to reinterpret this heritage creatively through narrative, theater, and dramatic arts to ensure its continued relevance and appreciation by future generations.
