On Behalf of Minister of Finance, IMFC Deputy Chair Participates in UN Financing for Development Forum
On behalf of Minister of Finance and Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the International Monetary Fund Mohammed Aljadaan, IMFC Deputy Chair Dr. Ryadh Mohammed Alkhareif participated in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development, held in New York from April 28 to 29, 2025. The forum convened representatives from the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and other relevant organizations.
In his speech, Dr. Alkhareif noted that under the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s chairmanship, the IMFC added a third seat for the African continent—marking the first time in the committee’s history—underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to amplifying the voice of low-income countries within the committee.
He also highlighted the “Diriyah Declaration,” developed during a preparatory meeting hosted in the Kingdom, which outlines an ambitious roadmap for the IMF’s future directions and seeks to enhance the effectiveness of IMFC operations. Dr. Alkhareif concluded by presenting the key outcomes of the committee’s 51st meeting, held in Washington, D.C.
The ECOSOC Forum serves as a global platform for governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society to engage in dialogue on economic, social, and development policy. The forum aims to advance international coordination in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in addressing global economic challenges through multilateral partnerships.
