KSrelief, UN-Habitat Partner to Enhance Water Security in Syria and Sudan

On the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Supervisor-General Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach signed a joint program to improve water security in Syria and Sudan.

The program will benefit 70,000 people in the city of Al-Maliha in Rif Dimashq, Syria. Interventions will restore regular water access, increasing weekly water availability by 60 hours and reducing reliance on water tankers by 40%.

In Sudan's Gezira State, the program will improve access to clean drinking water for 200,000 people. The plan includes drilling 15 new wells with solar-powered pumps, rehabilitating 40 existing wells, installing 30 solar units for continuous operation, and training 40 technicians on system maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability.
