
Najran University’s Autism Robot Named Among Top 20 Global eHealth Innovations
Najran University, through its College of Medicine, has been recognized at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, Switzerland, where the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) selected its groundbreaking Autism Robot project as one of the top 20 global initiatives in the field of eHealth.
The Autism Robot project aims to enhance communication skills, executive functions, emotional regulation, and personal safety in children with autism. Leveraging artificial intelligence and smart interaction technologies, the robot provides innovative tools that support the development of behavioral and cognitive abilities, improve communication, and foster greater independence and safety for children on the autism spectrum.
The project was nominated in the category of Information and Communication Technology Applications in eHealth, reflecting its measurable impact in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It demonstrates how digital technologies can be tailored to serve vulnerable communities and improve healthcare outcomes.
Project Lead Researcher Dr. Hussein Al-Emad expressed pride in the recognition, noting that it highlights the quality and depth of Najran University’s research in healthcare and technological innovation. He added that this international honor will serve as a powerful incentive to further develop the project and expand its reach both within Saudi Arabia and globally.
