Mountain Literature in Taif Narrates Life and Cultural Identity amid Peaks and Valleys
Mountain literature is a form of place-based literature connected to the geographical environment, reflecting the relationship between humans and mountainous regions, the associated ways of life, and inherited social and cultural experiences.
Mountain literature stands out within mountainous landscapes, among peaks, valleys, and pathways, as an expressive form that documents life in these environments and narrate their cultural identity and authenticity. Several literary works from Al-Shafa, Al-Hada, and the southern part of Taif Governorate trace the details of daily life, social transformations, and deep connections to the local environment.
Researcher and literary critic at Taif University Dr. Mastoura Al-Arabi spoke about mountain literature and the stories and texts it encompasses that reflect the human experience in these regions, noting that it represents an important source for preserving the cultural memory of mountain communities.
She pointed out that her academic interest in mountain literature focuses on tracing the presence of place in literary texts and analyzing its role in shaping local cultural identity. She stressed that advancing academic studies on mountain literature contributes to enriching the cultural scene and opens new horizons for understanding local identity in relation to place and people.
