Saudi Football Federation to Launch New Edition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup Wednesday
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) will launch the new edition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup for the current season 2023-2024 on Wednesday in the capital, Riyadh.
This launch coincides with the draw for the semi-final round of the competition, with the participation of Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Khaleej, and Al-Ittihad clubs.
The launch of the new edition of the cup comes as a result of Al-Hilal Club retaining the previous edition after winning the title last year, marking the fourth time they have been crowned champions of the same edition (2015, 2017, 2020, 2023). This is because Paragraph 4 of Article 27 of the regulatory rules of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup competition stipulates granting the club that wins the cup three consecutive times or four times intermittently the right to retain the cup.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup is considered the most prestigious domestic championship, historically crowned by ten champions: Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, Al-Shabab, Al-Ettifaq, Al-Wehda, Al-Fayha, Al-Faisaly, and Al-Taawoun.
The champion of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup receives a prize of SAR 10 million, in addition to a direct spot in the Saudi Super Cup and a direct spot in the AFC Champions League.
