During my second visit to hotel de la Ville, a property of Rocco Forte Hotels in the Italian capital, Rome, I found that this historic hotel continues to deliver its exceptional services. This is due to the prominent level of professionalism and expertise of Hotel Management; despite the current geopolitical circumstances the world is experiencing.

The hotel experience begins with the building itself. Dating back to the 18th century, the property is deeply intertwined with the era of the "Grand Tour", a time that inspired young European aristocrats to travel to Rome in pursuit of art, architecture, and culture. Following various chapters in the building's history, Hotel de la Ville became part of the Rocco Forte Hotels collection in May 2019, after an extensive two-and-a-half-year redevelopment project.

Designer Tommaso Ziffer, in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, Director of Design at Rocco Forte Hotels, drew inspiration from the Grand Tour, incorporating Italian craftsmanship, fabrics, artworks and details that blend classic charm with contemporary appeal. The inner courtyard was reworked by garden designer George Carter to create a tranquil and secluded space away from the bustle of central Rome, despite the hotel’s location in the heart of the city.

The historic hotel features 104 rooms and suites, including 89 rooms and 15 suites, where the philosophy of blending the past and the present continues. Fabrics inspired by the Grand Tour era stand out, alongside vintage pieces and artistic memorabilia, while the bathrooms feature Italian marble and Irene Forte Skincare products. The views vary between the Rome skyline and the hotel's inner courtyard.

Dining at the hotel is overseen by Fulvio Pierangelini, Creative Director of Food at Rocco Forte Hotels. In addition to Cielo, the hotel offers other experiences, including Café Ginori, which combines the art of porcelain, dining, and hospitality, and Mosaico, which serves breakfast.

What distinguishes Hotel de la Ville is its ability to combine two seemingly contrasting experiences: being in the heart of Rome while enjoying a sense of serene seclusion. The Irene Forte Spa features a Mediterranean salt inhalation room, sauna, steam room, ice fountain, Kneipp footbaths, hydropool, plunge pool and relaxation area, alongside five treatment rooms, including a double treatment room. The hotel also has a 24-hour gym.
