Islamic Affairs Minister Inspects Hajj Readiness, Launches Eight Holy Site Mosque Projects

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh yesterday inspected the readiness of mosques in the holy sites for the upcoming Hajj season 1446 AH as part of the ministry’s comprehensive preparations and its commitment to an operational and awareness plan aligned with the wise leadership’s aspirations.

During his tour, the minister launched eight major development projects totaling SAR35,803,133 to enhance pilgrim comfort and safety. The projects include extensive work at Namirah Mosque in Arafat, where 19 structural canopies similar to those at the Prophet’s Mosque have been installed to reduce heat load. Additionally, the adjacent courtyard floors were painted with reflective materials to lower temperatures by 10 degrees in the shade, and the second phase of backyard cooling with 98 misting fans is underway.

The projects also include upgrading the air conditioning and ventilation systems at both Namirah and Al-Khayf mosques, a major restoration of Namirah Mosque focusing on insulation replacement and improved operational efficiency, and the restoration of the Hujjaj al-Birr Mosque in Mina.

Furthermore, new initiatives include preparing Al-Khayf Mosque and the assembled restrooms in Mina by installing 57 new misting fans. To ensure pilgrim hydration, 70 cold water production units have been installed, each with a capacity of 1,000 liters, collectively serving 140,000 pilgrims per hour. Technological advancements feature the installation of an integrated audio control system, surveillance cameras, and lighting for canopies, all managed by a central electronic unit. In a first-of-its-kind safety measure, carbon dioxide measuring devices have also been installed to protect worshippers.
