Principal Buyer Announces RFQ Release for Round Seven Solar and Wind Projects with Total Capacity of 5,300 MW

Saudi Power Procurement Company (Principal Buyer) has released a request for qualification (RFQ) for the seventh round of solar and wind projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is led and supervised by the Ministry of Energy.
Round Seven projects have a combined capacity of 5,300 MW and include the Tabarjal two Solar PV IPP in Al-Jouf Region with a capacity of 1,400 MW, the Mawqaq Solar PV IPP in Hail Region with a capacity of 600 MW, the Tathleeth Solar PV IPP in Aseer Region with a capacity of 600 MW, and the South Al Ula Solar PV IPP in Madinah Region with a capacity of 500 MW, while the wind projects include the Bilghah Wind IPP in Madinah with a capacity of 1,300 MW and the Shagran Wind IPP in Madinah with a capacity of 900 MW.
The Ministry of Energy–led NREP aims to harness Saudi Arabia’s abundant renewable resources and achieve an optimal energy mix for electricity, contributing to displacing high-value liquid fuels from the power generation sector.
The Principal Buyer is the entity responsible for preparing feasibility studies, tendering electricity generation projects, and signing power purchase agreements with developer consortia. To date, the Principal Buyer has launched renewable electricity generation projects with a total capacity of over 43 GW. Of these, power purchase agreements have been signed for projects with a total capacity of over 38 GW.
