Environment Ministry Launches Campaign to Promote Seasonal Fruits, Support Farmers

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the Kingdom’s diverse seasonal fruits, highlight the comparative advantages of the most productive regions, and improve the efficiency of marketing locally produced fruit during peak seasons, supporting farmers and increasing their financial returns.
Ministry spokesperson Saleh Bindakhil stated that the campaign aims to promote awareness of the wide range of seasonal fruits across Saudi regions and encourage the consumption of national agricultural products, supporting local producers, increasing self-sufficiency rates, and strengthening food security.
He noted that the agricultural sector enjoys strong and continuous support from the wise leadership, resulting in significant growth in both quantity and quality, with annual agricultural production exceeding 16 million tons and the sector’s contribution to GDP rising to over SAR124 billion. He added that ministry plans and initiatives have enhanced self-sufficiency in several strategic fruits and crops, including dates, figs, melons, watermelons, grapes, mangoes, pomegranates, citrus fruits, vegetables, and other produce.
The spokesperson also emphasized that the campaign highlights ongoing efforts by the ministry and relevant entities to achieve Saudi Vision 2030 food security goals and showcase record achievements in self-sufficiency, stressing that supporting local products is key to empowering farmers and improving the competitiveness of national agricultural production against imports.
