Chamomile, A Golden Carpet Unfurls in Northern Borders Region

The Northern Borders Region is known for its diverse plant life, with one standout being the golden chamomile. This aromatic plant, prized for both its environmental and aesthetic value, graces the pastures and deserts with its bright yellow flowers and fragrant aroma.

The Saudi Press Agency lens documented the widespread presence of golden chamomile across various wild locations in the region, where it thrives post-winter rainfall, growing up to 20 cm in height. Its delicate stems branch out to form almost spherical yellow flower heads, distinguishing it from other wild plants.

Chamomile is a beloved aromatic plant renowned for its versatility, finding use in essential oil production, and contributing to environmental diversity. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it plays a crucial role in supporting the ecosystem by serving as a food source for bees and beneficial insects, aiding in the pollination of other plants. This plant symbolizes the allure of the Saudi deserts and underscores the region's exceptional environmental richness.

The establishment of natural reserves and the enforcement of environmental laws have helped these plants to thrive. Additionally, ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness aim to protect vegetation from overgrazing and the impacts of indiscriminate logging.
