Muslim Council of Elders Calls for Stronger International Efforts to Protect Refugees

The Muslim Council of Elders has affirmed that the global refugee crisis remains one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges facing the world today, calling for intensified international cooperation to protect millions of people forced to flee their homes in search of safety due to war, conflict, disasters, and other crises.
In a statement issued on the occasion of World Refugee Day, observed annually on June 20, the council emphasized that protecting refugees, safeguarding their rights, and ensuring dignified living conditions constitute humanitarian, moral, and legal responsibilities rooted in Islamic principles and universal human values.
The council called on the international community to strengthen collective efforts to address the root causes of displacement and forced migration, particularly armed conflict, violence, and extremism. It also stressed the importance of supporting peaceful solutions to ongoing crises in ways that enable refugees to return voluntarily and safely to their homelands while promoting security, stability, and sustainable development across societies.
