King Khalid International Airport Obtains Airport Carbon Accreditation for Emissions Management
King Khalid International Airport has been awarded the Airport Carbon Accreditation (Transformation Level) by the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program of the Airports Council International (ACI).
With this achievement, the airport becomes the first in Saudi Arabia to attain this level of accreditation. This milestone was reached by transforming airport operations and those of its commercial partners to achieve an absolute reduction in carbon emissions, aligning with a long-term strategy that complies with the Paris Agreement and global climate change aspirations.
The accreditation aligns with the objectives of the Saudi Civil Aviation Environmental Sustainability Program led by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). Riyadh Airports Company aims to be among the national entities contributing to the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, including the target of reducing carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions in the Kingdom by 2060. This reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, pollution reduction, and climate change mitigation.
