Week Five Reshapes Competition at Esports World Cup

The fifth week of the Esports World Cup 2025 delivered dramatic turns that reshaped the race for the coveted club championship title, as the tournament entered its final stretch in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. With stakes higher than ever, every point has become crucial in determining the eventual champion of the world’s largest esports event.

This year's edition has drawn significant global attention, featuring packed venues and the participation of elite international esports athletes, all aiming to leave their mark and achieve historic milestones. The heightened competition reflects the growing ambition of players and clubs alike, against the backdrop of the accelerating development of the esports scene both regionally and internationally.

The week kicked off with a major upset as Team Falcons exited the Rainbow Six Siege X competition earlier than expected, despite being one of the tournament favorites. The team had fielded the same roster that previously claimed three consecutive titles under the former banner of Team BDS. Their early elimination is likely to affect the overall club championship standings, especially given their reliance on this title to boost their point tally.

Meanwhile, new contenders emerged as top challengers for the trophy, with Team Secret, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Shopify Rebellion, and Virtus.pro advancing to the quarterfinals. With the grand final just two days away, anticipation continues to build in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion.

Following the disappointment in Rainbow Six Siege X, Team Falcons bounced back with a dominant showing in Call of Duty: Warzone, racking up an impressive 113 eliminations on the first day of group play—reaffirming their status as a top contender to defend the title they secured last year.

While early group-stage matches do not result in elimination, they have already highlighted several strong teams, including Virtus.pro, 100 Thieves, and Team Vision, setting the stage for decisive rounds starting tomorrow and culminating in the final the day after.

In EA Sports FC 25, the final player roster is now confirmed following the last qualification round. Reigning world champion Joao Vasconcelos returns to defend his title against tough competition, including Champions League runner-up Anders Vejrgang and Saudi star Ahmed Mujahid.
