
Saudi Family Affairs Council Leads Delegation to G20 Women’s Empowerment Meeting
The Family Affairs Council chaired the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the third consultative meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20) Empowerment of Women Working Group (EWWG), hosted by the Republic of South Africa.
In her statement on behalf of the Kingdom, Family Affairs Council Secretary-General and head of the participating delegation Dr. Maimoonah Al-Khalil highlighted the Kingdom’s key national efforts to promote women’s participation in the labor market, expand financial inclusion, empower women in the fields of science and technology, and advance policies supporting the care economy, as well as legislation aimed at combating gender-based violence. These efforts reflect the Kingdom’s commitment to the principles of empowerment and equality in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The secretary-general of the Family Affairs Council also emphasized the importance of integrating economic and family empowerment and encouraged incorporating the value of the care economy within national planning frameworks and gross domestic product (GDP) indicators. She further highlighted the pioneering role of the Family Affairs Council in mainstreaming the family perspective into strategies that promote work-life balance and comprehensive social development.
The council’s participation in these meetings underscores its national role in advancing women’s issues and reflects its ongoing representative responsibilities in international forums concerned with family affairs. It also demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to contributing to the formulation of global policy recommendations that support both women and families.
