Saudi Arabia Marks World Food Day, Underscores Commitment to Food Security with 1,055 Global Projects

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), underscores its commitment to global food security and combating famine on World Food Day, observed annually on October 16.

Since its establishment 10 years ago, KSrelief has prioritized the food and agricultural security sector, leading to the development of 1,055 specialized projects worldwide.

Yesterday, KSrelief launched the Bathraa (seed) initiative to build the capacity of small rural producers, including farmers, herders, beekeepers, and fishermen, in crisis-affected areas. The initiative focuses on capacity building, improving access to resources, and market empowerment to eradicate poverty and hunger.

A current project in Yemen is supporting the resilience of farmers and fishermen by providing agricultural inputs, including seeds, equipment, boats, greenhouses, and training in best practices. It also includes the rehabilitation of land, markets, and veterinary centers.

KSrelief launched a food security project in Pakistan, distributing over 30,000 food baskets, benefiting 210,000 people.

During the last Ramadan, the center completed the fourth phase of its Etaam food project, distributing 390,109 food baskets across 27 countries, benefiting over 2.3 million individuals.

Overall, KSrelief has implemented 3,768 projects in 109 countries since its inception, with a total value exceeding $8 billion, covering various vital sectors.
