National Center for Wildlife Chief Stresses Need for Bold Action, Collective Commitment to Safeguard Planet's Future

National Center for Wildlife Chief Executive Dr. Mohammad Qurban highlighted Saudi Arabia’s ambitious environmental goals, including the 30x30 initiative, during a session titled "MEAs Synergies for Strengthened Environmental Governance: Insights from the Bern III Conference," held on the sidelines of COP16. An MEA is a multilateral environmental agreement.

Qurban said that the 30x30 goal aims to protect 30% of the Kingdom’s land and marine areas by 2030. To achieve this, Saudi Arabia is leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and satellite tracking to monitor and conserve biodiversity.

Qurban emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to international cooperation. "We are working to implement many recommendations of the Bern III Conference. We also have established a national committee to coordinate efforts aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework," he said.

He concluded by stressing the need for bold action and collective commitment to safeguard the planet's future.
