Princess Sora bint Saud: “Riyadh” Embodies Our Nation’s Journey; The First Step in an Interactive Series Showcasing Saudi Culture and Regions
Princess Sora bint Saud bin Saad revealed that her inspiration behind launching the book “Riyadh” -the first release in a planned series introducing the regions of Saudi Arabia- stems from her belief that the Kingdom holds cultural treasures that have yet to be properly highlighted or presented to the world in creative and accessible ways.
Through a unique cultural and interactive lens, “Riyadh” -designed with stunning illustrations and engaging storytelling- was created to be more than a travel guide. It is a holistic cultural experience, spanning from the city’s striking skyscrapers and timeless heritage sites to its vibrant traditions and folk arts, painting a vivid portrait of a metropolis that harmonizes deep-rooted heritage with modern innovation.
Her Highness said: “Riyadh is the heart of the Kingdom and a symbol of its future. It is a city where tradition meets innovation. From historical landmarks like Diriyah and Al Masmak Palace to modern icons such as Kingdom Tower and Al Faisaliah Tower, Riyadh embodies our nation’s journey. Starting with Riyadh felt only natural; it tells the story of our past while pointing toward our vision for the future.”
She expressed her hope that the book would help readers outside the Kingdom realize that Saudi Arabia is far more than just a tourist destination; it is a land of deep history, living culture, and priceless heritage. Many, she noted, are familiar with its oil wealth and vast deserts, yet few have experienced its music, tasted its traditional dishes, or felt its genuine hospitality. She added, “I want readers to see Riyadh not as a distant or mysterious place, but as a city filled with warmth, creativity, and heritage.”
Explaining why the book weaves together history, culture, and even everyday activities, Princess Sora said: “The Kingdom is multifaceted, and its story cannot be told from a single perspective. For instance, Riyadh is home to UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Diriyah, yet it is also a place where you can go dune bashing, enjoy a desert gathering under the stars, or savor traditional dishes or dine at world-class restaurants, and even attend some of the world’s largest financial and technology conferences. Including all these elements highlights the richness of life in Riyadh, its past, present, and future.”
Princess Sora emphasized that Riyadh is just the beginning. The Sora Collection project aims to launch a comprehensive series covering all regions of the Kingdom. Each book will spotlight a specific region, its landscapes, traditions, and unique stories. The Kingdom is astonishingly diverse, she said, from the enchanting Red Sea coasts to the deep cultural roots of Najd and the mountains of Asir.
Princess Sora concluded by saying: “This book is a starting point. It is a map for the reader, and we hope it marks the beginning of their own story in discovering the cities of the Kingdom.”
