Transforming the Transport and Logistics Sector: Saudi Arabia's 94th Year Achievements

Since the Kingdom's unification, the transport and logistics sector has witnessed remarkable growth, driven by the unwavering leadership support.

The sector has achieved significant milestones, propelling Saudi Arabia to a prominent position on the global stage.

The Kingdom ranks fourth in the road quality index among G20 nations. The Saudi Highway Code and advanced technologies such as rubber asphalt and road cooling greatly facilitate road management and maintenance.

In regard to land transport, the intercity bus network has expanded; over 60 million passengers utilized public buses in the first half of 2024. Initiatives to adopt modern and environmentally friendly means of transportation have also been taken and implemented.

At ports, Saudi Arabia has climbed to the 15th place, globally, in annual container handling. Three Saudi ports were mentioned in the Lloyd's List One Hundred Ports 2024. The Kingdom won the presidency of the International Maritime Organization Council for 2024-2025 and will host the UNCTAD Global Supply Chain Forum in 2026.

In the air transport sector, the Kingdom chaired international aviation organizations and hosted major conferences. It presided over the Executive Council of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, and hosted the third annual Future Aviation Forum.

The number of professions targeted for localization in the air transport sector has increased, and the national air carrier fleet has expanded significantly. Recent deals have secured more than 264 new aircraft and 100 electric aircraft, bringing the total number of required aircraft to 583.

When it comes to railways, contracts were signed to connect the logistics areas with industrial cities and establish a passenger station. During the Hajj season 1445 AH, 42% more passengers used the Haramain High-Speed Railway compared to the previous year.

In logistics, the LOGISTI platform, launched by the Transport General Authority, offers over 140 logistics services, streamlining business processes. A contract was also signed to establish a Saudi logistics city in Djibouti's free trade zone.

The Hajj season was the occasion to showcase modern and environmentally friendly transportation solutions, including self-driving vehicles, electric scooters, and advanced monitoring systems.

These achievements demonstrate Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Services Strategy.
