Saudi Arabia Participates in WIPO General Assembly Meeting

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), is participating in the 65th General Assembly meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at its headquarters in Geneva, between July 9 and 17.

The delegation is headed by CEO of SAIP Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Swailem, with the participation of several officials from the authority.

In his speech during the opening session, Al-Swailem praised the success of the diplomatic conference that resulted in the adoption of the WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge. He reviewed the developments in intellectual property in the Kingdom this year, noting that the Kingdom has contributed SAR21 million to a WIPO trust fund.

Al-Swailem also proposed dedicating a day each year to celebrate examiners working in the field of intellectual property, in recognition of their efforts in this domain. He concluded his speech by welcoming member states to Riyadh during the diplomatic conference on design law to be held in November of this year.

The Saudi Tourism Authority is organizing the Visit Saudi Exhibition on the sidelines of the WIPO General Assembly meeting, where SAIP is scheduled to sign several agreements with WIPO and member states.
