Al-Daghm Dunes: Fusion of Natural Beauty and History in Northern Borders
The Al-Daghm sand dunes, situated south of the historic village of Laynah in Rafha Governorate, offer a captivating blend of environmental beauty and historical significance. Characterized by vibrant red sands, undulating paths, and varied elevations, these formations create a unique natural landscape in Northern Borders Region.
A tour by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) highlighted the breathtaking scenery of Al-Daghm and nearby sites. The areas flank the western side of the famed Zubaydah Trail (Darb Zubaydah), one of the Arabian Peninsula's most prominent ancient pilgrimage and trade routes.
The region features a diverse topography of sandy plains, plateaus, and golden dunes that shimmer in the sunlight. The vast sand dunes and their depressions support a rich array of wild vegetation, now thriving due to environmental conservation efforts, making the area a prime destination for desert adventurers and photographers.
Travelers and experts refer to these dune pathways as "Uruq." Varying from accessible to rugged, the terrain sustains diverse flora. The names, deeply rooted in local heritage, reflect the specific features of the desert environment and the long-standing relationship between the land and its people.
