The Muslim World League (MWL) hosted a historic first-of-its-kind Ramadan iftar at the U.S. Congress, bringing together a diverse group of attendees from the Muslim community, religious leaders of various faiths, and bipartisan policymakers.

This initiative aligns with the MWL’s global efforts to foster mutual understanding and coexistence among different religious communities. It also reinforces the League’s leading role in representing Muslim nations and advocating for global peace and harmony.

In a special video address, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, emphasized that MWL strives to strengthen coexistence and cooperation among religious communities through such religious gatherings. He noted that the Congressional iftar, attended by a broad spectrum of American society, adds significant value to advancing friendship and mutual trust within the diverse U.S. landscape.

During his address, followed closely by members of Congress from both the Republican and Democratic parties as well as religious leaders, Dr. Al-Issa underscored the wisdom behind inviting non-Muslims to this event—to illustrate the essence of Ramadan. He elaborated: "Ramadan allows us to reflect on God’s blessings, recognize the struggles of the less fortunate, and, at the same time, serves as a test of piety, self-discipline, and obedience to God through fasting.”

Dr. Al-Issa issued a public call for all Muslims to respect national constitutions and laws in their respective countries, stating that the Muslim community embodies Islam’s true essence through their conduct and commitment to societal values.

“Muslims around the world take pride in their homelands through their integrity and positive contributions to society,” he said. He further urged Muslims to actively promote harmony, tolerance, integration, coexistence, and national unity. MWL, he reaffirmed, has consistently advocated for adherence to shared human principles, which serve as a counterforce to global challenges such as hate speech and divisive ideological clashes.

Paula White, Senior Advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump for the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, emphasized Trump’s commitment to religious diversity and inclusion, stating: "President Trump acknowledges the importance of respecting religious diversity in America, a nation founded on this very principle, enshrined in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.” She also extended special appreciation to Dr. Al-Issa for his efforts in bringing people of different faiths and beliefs together to collaborate for the common good.

Several distinguished speakers praised MWL’s role in fostering mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation. Notable among them were; Margaret Kiblin, Chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives, Republican Representative Joe Wilson from South Carolina, Democratic Representative April McLean Delaney from Maryland, and Jennifer Korn, Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives. Additionally, leaders from various faith communities, diplomatic representatives, and members of Congress expressed their appreciation for this landmark gathering. Several Muslim leaders also took the stage, emphasizing the profound impact of this inaugural Congressional iftar. Some described it as a transformative event and a crucial step forward in strengthening the presence and representation of the Muslim community within key U.S. institutions.
