Riyadh Adds Smart Systems to Flood Drainage Networks

The Riyadh Region Municipality introduced a modern smart model to the Saudi capital’s flood network to ensure the integrity of flood channels and facilitate proactive action.
The new model utilizes smart options to assess water levels in the flood lines, ease access to data on drainage channels, and identify errors and methods of resolution.
The model comprises sensors providing real-time data readings, ensuring the reliability of flood drainage channels, contributing to maintenance planning, and developing drainage channels through data analysis. It also offers continuous monitoring and early prediction of water flow rates in the channels.
The new model’s objective is to ensure the protection of lives and properties, while saving time and effort, prolonging infrastructure lifespan, and promoting sustainability.
The municipality noted the employment of the flood sensors have proven effective in several countries like Japan, France, and Australia, adding that these devices are easy to use and are compatible with Android systems.
Moreover, the municipality highlighted the versatility of these sensors, with some of the devices measuring depth and water pressure and quality, while others produce instant images and videos. Some of the sensors also operate on solar power, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency.
The utilization of sensor devices aligns with the municipality strategy on utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and data analysis to serve its operations and promote sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The strategy aims to build a data-driven work system following highest global standards for a prosperous and sustainable Riyadh.
