World's First Humanoid Robot Sports League Launches in Riyadh

CyberHero, billed as the world's first global humanoid robot sports league, launched in Riyadh on September 9, with host Hero Esports confirming plans for an inaugural season spanning eight cities across four regions: the Middle East, Europe, the Americas and Asia. Two of those eight stops will be in the Middle East.

The launch event, CyberHero x Riyadh, was staged at Boulevard City as an invite-only showcase and marked the region's first humanoid robot combat competition. It was created by Hero Esports, which describes itself as Asia's largest esports company, and served as a preview of the format, personalities and broader ambitions behind the new property.

The combat itself was carried out by EngineAI's T800 humanoid robots, standing approximately 1.73 metres tall and weighing between 75 and 85 kilograms. Each robot carries 29 articulated joints, enabling it to walk, run, punch, kick, turn, recover after falls and, occasionally, dance. Competition is built around a three-role team structure: builders who engineer the robots, coders who develop and train their underlying intelligence, and drivers who make live tactical calls during the physical matches.

"CyberHero was born from a bold idea about the future of competition: that robots can be pushed to test their limits, break new boundaries and improve through data generated in competition," said Danny Tang, co-founder and CEO of Hero Esports. She added that the league draws on lessons from esports and that Hero Esports is establishing a global technology lab at its Shanghai headquarters to bring together technical talent from around the world.

HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, welcomed Riyadh's selection as the launch city, describing it as a reflection of local fan enthusiasm and the Kingdom's continued investment in esports as an entertainment and economic sector.

The Riyadh showcase drew a lineup of regional digital personalities, with MENA creator AboFlah and Saudi sports creator Bashar Arabi captaining the two competing teams. Hero Esports said it is now seeking partners across universities and education, tourism, technology, sports, entertainment, business and music as the global circuit takes shape, with plans to add further competitive disciplines as humanoid robot capabilities advance — part of a stated long-term goal of moving physical AI from the laboratory onto a global competitive stage.
