From Riyadh Marathon to Schools League, Ministry of Sport Builds Talent

The Ministry of Sport is driving a comprehensive vision to build a vibrant sporting community in the Kingdom through holistic plans and unique initiatives, aiming to integrate sports into daily life and culture for all age groups and move beyond its role as occasional entertainment.

Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, which is built on the three pillars of an ambitious nation, a thriving economy, and a vibrant society, the sports sector has collaborated closely with relevant entities to achieve these national goals.

Focusing on the "vibrant society" pillar, the Ministry of Sport has achieved new successes in 2025 by significantly increasing the rate of physical activity. The percentage of adults (aged 18 and older) engaging in 150 minutes or more of physical activity per week has reached 59.1%, surpassing not only the 2025 target of 55% but also the 2027 target of 58%. Similarly, the physical activity rate among children (aged five to 17) engaging in 60 minutes or more of activity has reached 19%, achieving a qualitative leap that meets the target set for 2029.

These impressive figures are the result of integrated work in cooperation with various institutions across the public and private sectors. The ministry has launched numerous community sports initiatives, most notably the Riyadh Marathon, organized in partnership with the Saudi Sports for All Federation, which saw over 40,000 competitors from 144 countries participate in its latest edition. Furthermore, the 130 major international sporting events hosted so far have played a significant role in encouraging local communities to engage in their favorite sports.

In addition to community events, the ministry established "Nafes," an official platform that allows local and international investors to contribute directly to the sector by issuing licenses for clubs, gyms, and sports academies.

The ministry has also integrated with government agencies to build a new generation of distinguished athletes, highlighted by the school football league for male and female students, which attracted over 42,000 participants and successfully scouted young Saudi talents.

These efforts, alongside partnerships with entities such as the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and the Sports Boulevard Foundation, underscore the ministry's commitment to promoting sports across the local community.
