Saudi Arabia Affirms Commitment to International Humanitarian Law at ICRC Event in Geneva

The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the UN in Geneva participated in a high-level International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) event to launch the first phase report on the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

In the Kingdom's intervention, Foreign Ministry's General Administration of Humanitarian Affairs Director-General Dr. Salem Al-Qahtani emphasized Saudi Arabia's belief in the necessity of IHL compliance for enhancing global security, stability, peace, and preserving human dignity. He stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to consolidate IHL and humanitarian principles.

Al-Qahtani highlighted that Saudi Arabia was quick to join the global initiative and co-chairs its third workstream, "IHL and Peace," alongside Qatar, Bangladesh, Colombia, and Ethiopia. The Kingdom reaffirmed its strong partnership with the ICRC and other international bodies to promote peaceful solutions to global crises.
