Transport Authority Reports Record Train Passenger Figures in Q2 2025

The Transport General Authority (TGA) reported that the train transport sector in the Kingdom surpassed 36.5 million passengers in the second quarter of 2025, reflecting an increase of one million from the first quarter.

 The intra-city rail sector experienced substantial growth, with over 33.8 million passengers in Q2 2025, reflecting a rise in demand. The Riyadh Metro led with over 23.6 million passengers, followed by the Automated People Mover (APM) at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah with 7.76 million passengers, and the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University APM in Riyadh with over 512,000 passengers.

 In inter-city travel, statistics show that over 2.67 million passengers used inter-city trains, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.

 For freight transport, the TGA reported over 4.08 million tons and more than 232,000 containers shipped via rail, underscoring the crucial role of trains in supporting the Saudi economy and enhancing supply chains, particularly in the industrial and mining sectors, aligned with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

 Train services facilitate the movement of passengers and goods, providing safe and efficient transportation while reducing carbon emissions and improving the quality of life in the Kingdom.
