Makkah’s Urban Shift Enhances the City's Quality of Life
Makkah is undergoing a qualitative urban shift by integrating cultural and entertainment events to enhance the quality of life for residents and pilgrims, highlighted by the Makkah winter season.
The event attracted up to 400,000 visitors, over 60% of them locals, revitalized public spaces, increased recreational site visits by 35%, and created more than 1,200 temporary jobs.
In parallel with these seasonal events, the Hira Cultural District has successfully bridged heritage and the creative economy through its craftsmanship program. Featuring over 100 artisans, the program generated up to SAR3 million in sales and attracted 130,000 visitors to live workshops.
These initiatives, alongside specialized museums and restored historic sites, now attract up to 1.6 million annual visitors, increasing the average stay by 18%. By balancing its religious sanctity with modern urban development, Makkah is supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program.
